Q. Do I inform my doctor before I leave for medical treatment overseas?

Ans- Yes, we recommend you to inform your local doctor or specialist about your health trip prior to departure. There are chances that you would have specific needs based on your Indian surgeon’s instructions or recommendations and your local doctor could help you in following your post- treatment recovery program. Thus, it is advisable to keep your local healthcare provider informed both as a courtesy and for practical reasons.

Q. what kind of post-treatment recovery program can I expect?

Ans- Almost all medical procedures entail post treatment regimen of antibiotics and other prescriptions lasting few weeks to few months. The hospital would issue adequate instructions; prescription notes and recommendations as part of part of your post-treatment recovery program. We recommend you to inform your local doctor, family members and close friends about your post treatment procedures and regimens, who would help you in your recovery program that could consist of prescriptions, appointments, therapy sessions and other health promoting activities.

Ans- As most complications arise within a week after surgery, your surgeon would insist that you remain in India for few days after the procedure to monitor your condition for any signs of complications. While 95% of all surgical patients do not experience any post treatment complications, we recommend you to seek prompt medical help if you see any warning signs of discomfort. However, as with all medical procedures, there is possibility that medical outcome may turn out to be sub optional. But if a medical mistake or malpractice is believed to have occurred, you have the right to seek justice in Indian court system.
